OUR HIstory
Before Estate Les Chenes came to fruition, the Main House was known as the “W.R. Shadow Home”. Homesteaded by Robert and Winnie Byas in 1816, the dog trot and main bedroom of the Main House was built and the original structure still stands. The Leary Family purchased the property in 1850, where it became known as “Sunnyside”, growing over 2,000 acres of crops. It was later purchased by the Shadow Family in 1906, the land operated as a landscape nursery named "Dixie Nursery" until 1981." Each family added to the home to complete its nearly 5000 sq ft space.
The home remained in the Shadow family until it was purchased in 2018 by Denton Culpepper. Culpepper was dedicated to restoring the house to its glory. He restored the house completely while saving the original floors and features.
In 2023 the house was purchased by its current owner, Loreli Lopez, with the vision to provide overnight accommodations so that everyone could enjoy the rich historical home. She added her own personal touches to the furnishings and newly remodeled bathrooms at the property and created La Maison Rose for small indoor events.
